The XK coupe and convertible were developed in parallel. The coupe is priced at $214,990 and the convertible is $234,990.

The new XK has an aluminium chassis and body, a six-speed automatic transmission and a luxury interior that can be ordered with traditional woodgrain and leather, or
a more contemporary mix of materials.

The XK rides on 20-inch cast alloy wheels, and is powered by a 4.2-litre V8 engine develping maximum power of 224kW and peak torque of 420Nm. The six-speed electronic automatic gearbox also has a sequential manual shift function operated using steering column mounted paddles.

Suspension follows normal Jaguar practice, and uses a wishbone layout.
The car’s all-aluminium construction gives it high levels of torsional rigidity in Coupe form, and the Convertible XK is 50 percent stiffer than the previous model.
The aluminium has allowed lightweight construction techniques to be used, and the car is lighter than its predecessor, with the coupe weighing 1595kg and Convertible 1635.

Jaguar says the XK will hit 100km/h in 6.2 seconds and has an electronically limited top speed of 250km/h. The lightweight body offers a 10 percent improvement in power to weight ratio.

The cabin is available with a choice of either burr walnut wood, aluminium or poplar wood veneers on the fascia and centre console. The steering wheel and gear knob are leather covered.Other interior features include dual zone automatic climate-control air-conditioning, electronic parking brake, keyless start and entry, trip computer and heated front seats. There is full leather upholstery and the front seats have 10-way electric adjustments. Three memory settings are available for the driver’s seat, steering column and rear view mirrors, which are heated and foldable.

The six speaker sound system has a six stack CD player. The convertible’s roof can be raised or lowered electrically in fewer than 18 seconds, and can be operated at speeds up to 24km/h. It is stowed below a lightweight aluminium tonneau cover. The coupe has a liftback for access to the luggage area.

The XK has bixenon headlights with automatic levelling and corner lights.
Active safety equipment includes dynamic stability control, ABS brakes with emergency brake assist and electronic brakeforce distribution.
