TRS and Atlantic for Higgins

Despite a season that didn’t match his pre-season goals, Andrew Higgins hopes to contest next summer’s Toyota Racing Series.

“That’s the plan, but I’m in the middle of sorting out some sponsorship,” he says. “My results weren’t as good as I would have liked, but my sponsors were pretty realistic in my first season.”
In hindsight, Higgins feels the TRS cars required a more aggressive driving approach.

“Pukekohe (the final round) was really my best meeting in terms of pace and I feel we made some big gains in pace over the last three or four rounds.

“The cars are a lot different to what I’ve been used to and I prefer a smoother approach. With the TRS cars you have to drive at 100 percent or 110 percent all the time. When I jumped into the Atlantic car (Ken Smith’s Swift DB4) I was quick straight away. Those cars (Formula Atlantics) have a lot more aerodynamic suck and generate more confidence.’’

Higgins and Smith plan to run at all major classic meetings with two of Smith’s Swift DB4s this season.
