Shelby revives GT350 Mustang

Shelby American has unveiled the Shelby GT350 to honor the 45th anniversary of the classic car

The commemorative model, a limited edition series, is based on the standard Ford Mustang GT and was developed with help from Ford Racing. It features many of the styling cues of the old GT350, including the double blue stripes across the top of the car.

The 2011 Shelby GT350 is a throwback to the Shelby GT350 series of the 1960s, which was discontinued in 1970.

Exterior changes include new front and rear fascia, and the hood and rocker panels get functional air scoops.

Under the hood, the 5.0-litre V8 is supercharged by Ford Racing, boosting output to around 500hp. The engine works with a six-speed manual transmission.

Ford Racing also provides springs, struts, sway bars and caster/camber plates to upgrade the suspension. Shelby American also fits the car with Baer brakes for greater stopping power.

There's a host of Shelby American 45th-anniversary badges inside and out and the driver-side A-pillar gets gauges for fuel pressure, oil pressure and boost.

Ford begins building the 2011 Mustang this spring and Shelby American customers can have their car delivered from the factory to the Las Vegas facility for upfitting.

The price for the 2011 Shelby GT350 package is 23,650 euros (NZ$46,00), and that doesn't include the base Mustang GT.
