Plug-in Prius outruns sibling

Toyota says that plug-in versions of its Prius hybrid are doing 4.3 litres/100km (65mpg) in real-world testing

That’s roughly 25 percent better than the forthcoming third-generation petrol/electric Prius (pictured).

The plug-in, home-rechargeable, Prius runs a lithium ion battery pack in place of the standard car’s nickel metal pack.

Toyota hasn’t said when, or if, it will start selling plug-in Priuses to the general public.
