Ferrari 599XX hits the track

Video: Felipe Massa and seven new Ferrari buyers piloted the 599XX around a track in Spain

First revealed in conept form at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show, the Ferrari 599XX track car has made its debut.

Becasue it is not official for competition use, it’s unrestricted either by homologation limitations or regulatory restrictions. This Prancing Horse is, in Ferrari’s own words “a genuine technological laboratory” which “incorporates the very best of Ferrari technology”.

Based on the 599 GTB Fiorano, the concept model had an engine built with lighter engine, a composite body, carbon-ceramic brakes, and carbon-fiber and aluminum all over.

The 12-cylinder engine of the 599XX produces 510 kW or 690hp, with a redline of around 9000 rpm.

Aerodynamics were improved to provide 630kg of downforce when speeding around the track at 300kmh.

"I really enjoyed testing this car, I think it's extremely powerful and has an exceptional stability," Massa said of the 599XX. "Considering that it has been planned for the track it's really easy to drive."

The video was shot over three days at the end of January on the Ricardo Tormo track in Valencia, Spain.

Ferrari plans to replicate the event with other customers on tracks across Asia, Europe, and the US.
