Citroen C4 gets 4WD Aircross version

Just weeks after the new C4 arrived in New Zealand, Citro├źn has announced that the hatchback will be joined by a crossover version in 2012 and, for the first time, a Citroen C4 version will include four wheel drive

Citroën says the all-new car will combine a new style inside and out with advanced technology and value for money.

The new Citroën C4 Aircross "combines the style of the new Citroën C4 with the conventional cues of compact SUV design".

Set to be available in two-wheel and four-wheel drive versions, depending on the engine, the Citroën C4 Aircross will be launched during the first half of 2012 and will reportedly be one of the front-runners in its segment in terms of CO2 emissions.

The distinctive styling of the Citroën C4 Aircross includes a front end of horizontal lines and aerodynamic features such as vents, countoured bonnet, wide wheel arches and reduced.

Other highlights include LEDs at the front, large 18-inch wheels, repeater lights in the door mirrors, inverted shark fin wing, panoramic glass, light guides in the rear lights and a rearview camera built into the chrome trim on the tailgate.

With its latest-generation four-wheel transmission system, the five-seater car can be driven permanently in four-wheel drive mode.

Using the single control positioned behind the gear lever, drivers can manually select one of the three transmission modes: 2WD for optimal fuel consumption, 4WD, which automatically distributes the torque between the front and rear axles, or lock mode, which increases the torque transmitted to the rear wheels for more grip under severe conditions.

The Citroën C4 Aircross has an HDi 110 engine, mated to a six-speed manual gearbox, available with 2WD and 4WD.

Right from launch, the Citroën C4 Aircross will also benefit from the performance of the HDi 150 engine (also available with 2WD and 4WD with a six-speed manual gearbox) and a 115hp 1.6i petrol engine (available in a 2WD version with a 5-speed manual gearbox).

The C4 Aircross measures 4.34m long, 1.80m wide and 1.63m high, with a 10.6m turning circle. The boot capacity is 442L.
