Aston Martin Rapide getting closer

Aston Martin has released the first official photographs of its Rapide sedan, set to go on sale in early 2010

On the outside, many Aston signature elements have been translated to the four-door format, such as the swan wing doors front and rear, LED tail lights, dual exhaust tips and rear spoiler style.

The wheelbase of the Rapide stretches about 10 inches more than the DB9, and is about 2.5 inches taller.

The engine will be a 6.0-litre V12, revised from the DB9 model. A six-speed ZF automatic transmission with Aston martin's Touchtronic control will give 470hp (350kW) and 442lb-ft (600Nm) of torque.

The Rapide will not be built at Aston Martin's traditional Gaydon plant in England - production of the four-door has been contracted to Magna Steyr who will build the vehicle at its Austrian plant.

Aston Martin expects a public debut for the Rapide in September, possibly the Frankfurt Motor Show.
