Seat dominates WTCC qualifying in Brazil


Reigning champion takes top five starting slots for 2009 series opener.

Reigning champion, Spanish carmaker Seat, has dominated qualifying for the opening round of the World Touring Car Championship at Curitiba in Brazil.

Yvan Muller has put his Seat Leon TDi on pole with a 1m 24.196s lap from fellow Seat racers, Jordi Gene (1m 24.315s) and Gabriele Tarquini (1m 24.355s).

Two Seats, driven by Tiago Monteiro and Rickard Rydell complete the top five places on the grid.

Then come BMW 320si pilots, Jorg Muller and Augusto Farfus, followed by Alain Menu and Nicola Larini in Chevrolet Cruzes.

Best of the three Lada 110s in the field is driven by Jaap van Lagen who qualified 20th. The other two Ladas are 23rd and 24th in the 24-car field.
