New look NZV8s head to CRC Speedshow

New Zealand's premier race championship V8 category will again feature at CRC Speedshow when the doors open at Auckland's ASB Showgrounds on 21 July.

With a number of new generation NZV8s currently being built to race in the 2012-13 championship, NZV8s' new marketing manager Brian Lawrence is keen to profile the dynamic racing series to CRC Speedshow fans.

"We're delighted to be back at CRC Speedshow with a number of NZV8 drivers joining us at the show throughout the weekend to meet V8 race fans, sign autographs and talk about the new-look championship," says Lawrence.

"We have had a lot of support for the new direction we are taking the NZV8s category, where any manufacturer can run their own engine and body with our New Zealand-built space-framed chassis.

"We recently announced that a Toyota Camry will be the first car to be constructed outside of the current Ford and Holden marques for the new generation Gold Star V8 Touring Car Championship. Tony Richards Toyota has already committed to a two-car Toyota team running Toyota V8 engines and their first Camry will be driven by Hamilton's Martin Short, a frontrunner in this season's championship."

Next season's racing features both current generation and the new generation NZV8s racing in the same race, but competing for two separate Gold Star championships now established by MotorSport New Zealand to support the transition to the new cars.

CRC Speedshow's Keith Sharp says he's looking forward to seeing more of the new generation NZV8s.

"The first Ford NZV8 was unveiled at CRC Speedshow last year, so it will be great to see the new Holden with its Holden LS3 engine and New Zealand-made six-speed gearbox. There's also been a hint that we might see another new NZV8 being unveiled."

A provisional calendar for the NZV8s has recently been announced and sees the series take in seven rounds starting in December in Taupo and concluding in April at a yet-to-be-decided venue.

The 2012 edition of CRC Speedshow – the sixth running of this annual automotive and motorsport expo – also features numerous motorsport-related products and services from top-rated brands like Castrol Edge, Racetech, Race Brakes, and Chicane Racewear. Among the other key displays is the New Zealand Hot Rod Association 50th anniversary national hot rod show, Jetblack, the New Zealand-led challenge for the world land speed record with their 13-metre long concept car and the entertaining Ezy Buy Auctions live action arena with stunt drivers and riders, the mighty Mini motorkhana and drifting demonstrations from D1NZ.
