Former works driver, Scotsman Alister McRae, will contest the full NZ rally championship which begins in Dunedin in the middle of April.

March 29, 2007, 3pm. Former Hyundai and Mitsubishi works driver Alister McRae will contest the 2007 Vantage Aluminium Joinery New Zealand Rally Championship in a Subaru Impreza WRX STi.

McRae (36) will drive a Possum Bourne Motorsport-built car owned by Manawatu driver Robbie Leicester.

Leicester drove the car to win the 2006 Rally Xtreme title.

McRae is a former British and Scottish rally champion and is the younger brother of former World Rally Champion Colin McRae.

Also contesting the series is American businessman and extreme sports competitor Ken Block (38).

Block will drive an Impreza prepared by Sam Murray’s team in Palmerston North.

Both international drivers will compete in the series’ opening round, the Otago Rally, on April 13-15.

Also in the field will be defending champion Richard Mason in another Impreza.

Former champion Chris West, who isn’t running the full series, will have a one-off drive in a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 6.5.
