McLaren chasing car set-up

NZ Truth V8s Championship newcomer Connel McLaren is hoping to get some more track time ahead of the third round of the championship at Taupo

The former Battery Town Porsche GT3 racer made a late decision to race the International Motorsport-run Ford Falcon, formerly driven by Paul Pedersen, and entered the opening round at Pukekohe with little in the way of testing under his belt.
Finding an ideal set-up hasn’t been easy because the set-ups preferred by his teammate, experienced V8 racer Angus Fogg, haven’t been to his liking. A broken shock absorber and a puncture at Ruapuna also limited his track time.

“(The Falcon is) a very different beast (than the Porsche GT3) and the range of set-up options is far greater,” he said. “With the Porsche there was a validated optimal set-up but the V8 is more sensitive to set-up and the driver needs to be more involved in the process.”

McLaren decided to switch to V8s from Porsche because of the arrival of the 997 model Porsche GT3, and he believed a three-year commitment to race the new car would be required. He also prefers the longer races in the V8 championship.
