Kiwi dips out on Renault European race title

Having led the prestigious Formula Renault Eurocup 2.0 championship, Netherlands based Kiwi Chris van der Drift was squeezed in to second place at the Barcelona season finale.

Dominant for much of the 2006 season the 20-year old finished fifth in both races at the Barcelona circuit; aero damage slowing him in the first race and unable to challenge any higher than fourth in the second.

Still leading the series heading in to the final race, it was Red Bull driver Filipe Albuquerque who's second successive victory put him ahead on points to take the title from the Kiwi.

Second Kiwi in the series Brendon Hartley also had a disappointing weekend; not finishing the first race and 16th in the second to finish his maiden off-shore race season in 14th position.
