Kia goes racing with new Cerato Koup

Kia Motors is to campaign two Forte (known as the Cerato in New Zealand) Koups in the 2010 Grand-Am Koni Sports Car Challenge Series in America

The Forte/Cerato Koup’s performance-inspired styling and outstanding driving dynamics make it a natural fit for road racing, according to Kia Motors America, which says that competing in Grand-Am's Koni Challenge Series will enable it to reach an entirely new and passionate base of automotive enthusiasts.

The Grand-Am Koni Challenge Street Tuner (ST) class is open to production-based cars and has a wide variety of vehicles from the US, Europe and Asia, using weight and intake restrictions to maintain a level playing field for all entrants.

Kia Motors is partnering with the Kinetic Group to develop, build and campaign the two Forte/Cerato Koup Koni Challenge cars. Drivers will be Nic Jönsson and Andy Lally in the first car and Adam Burrows and Trevor Hopwood, both past Koni ST champions, who are piloting the second car.

The first race will be at the famous Daytona track where another Kia is being featured - a highly modified version of the Kia Soul urban crossover serving as the official pace car at several races throughout the 2010 US Touring Car Championship (USTCC) season.
