Glenfords withdraws from V8 Supercars

Paul Cruickshank Racing starts a new era as major sponsor announces withdrawal from motor racing.

Glenfords Tool Centres, the chief sponsor of Fabian Coulthard’s Australian V8 Supercar Ford Falcon, is withdrawing from motor racing at the end of 2008.

Glenfords has backed Kiwi Paul Cruickshank’s team for the past three seasons and was instrumental in it becoming the first ever to graduate from the Development Series to the main championship.

Marcus Marshall drove the Glenfords Falcon in 2006 and Aussie racing legend John Bowe drove it last season in his farewell year in V8 Supercars.

Aucklander Coulthard has become a top 10 contender in the Glenfords car this season.

"For such a challenging and competitive sport we've had a good run," says Glenfords boss, Peter Simpson. "We're particularly fond of all the drivers who have raced under the Glenfords Racing umbrella over the years, nine in total.

“(They) were either known winners or fresh talents that were nurtured into winners. (It) helped the image of our brand immensely along the way.

"When we first started in motor racing no-one really knew who Glenfords were. We’re the largest discount tool retailer in Australia and now a well-known entity, so our sponsorship has been very beneficial from a branding perspective.

“It’s just time to shift focus. This is not to say we are permanently moving away from the motorsport game but will review our options and opportunities as they arise."
