Frosty says title now looks unlikely

Orrcon Ford Falcon racer Mark (Frosty) Winterbottom says it’s unlikely he’ll be able to overtake Jamie Whincup and win the 2008 Australian V8 Supercar Championship in the final round at Oran Park in two weekends’ time

His prediction follows his fourth place in last weekend’s round of the series at Symmons Plains, Tasmania. Whincup won the Tasmanian round in his 888 Motorsport Vodafone Falcon and extended his points lead over Winterbottom to 233.

“You’d like to think we could still win the championship but it’s unlikely,” Winterbottom says. “Jamie’s doing a good job (and) you can’t fault the team.

“Craig Lowndes (Whincup’s teammate) made it easier for him this weekend by protecting him on track so he had no pressure.

“Obviously 888 has found something because both cars have upped their speed. They’re just so dominant but in the last race our car was probably as good.

“If I’d have got Todd (Jack Daniel’s Holden Commodore driver, Todd Kelly) I would have been more with it but I just couldn’t have a go. I went deeper and deeper into the corners but never really found the limit.”
