Strongest January sales in 23 years


January’s new-vehicle sales finished significantly ahead of the year-ago figures, according to the Motor Industry Assn (MIA).

It was the biggest January for both categories for 23 years, said the MIA, noting that “buyers are clearly responding to the tremendous value for money on offer in today’s new vehicle market.”
Passenger car sales reached 6732 while commercials added 1700. Cars were 6.6 per cent ahead of January 2006 and commercials were 14.6 per cent ahead.
Top selling make in January was Toyota, with 1595 units, ahead of Holden on 1226 and Ford on 831. Corolla (pictured) was top the top selling model at 655, just beating Commodore by 32 units.
