Aussie classics fetch strong prices

Aussie muscle car prices bounced back to health at last night’s Shannons Sydney Summer auction

A bidder paid $Au70,000 for a one-owner 1972 Holden LJ Torana GT-R XU-1 sedan, painted March the 17th green. Auctioneers had estimated the likely selling price as being $Au45,000-$55,000.

Bidders vied enthusiastically for a rare Magenta three-speed manual 1971 Chrysler Valiant Charger R/T E37 coupe which went for $Au62,000 compared with its $45,000-$55,000 pre-auction estimate. Chrysler built only 20 E37-optioned Chargers in the striking colour.

A Teal and White, highly desirable left-hand drive 1955 Ford Thunderbird Convertible sold on estimate for $Au51,000.
