The second generation of the Multijet diesel engine meets the new Euro5 emissions standard, and reportedly cuts fuel consumption by two per cent.

Fiat says the petrol engine variants of the new Punto Evo will also feature the new Multiair technology that cuts fuel consumption by 10 per cent, while lifting power and torque by 10 per cent.

The new system also incorporates ‘eco:Drive Info’ for real time information on your driving style and useful suggestions for reducing environmental impact and optimising consumption by changing gear and using the accelerator to suit the nature of the route.

The Punto Evo features 7 airbags, including a driver knee airbag, Hill-Holder, adaptive ‘cornering’ front fog lights, and Fiat’s ABS, EBD and ESP systems.

The interiors (fascia, seats and instrumentation) have been completely renewed, and the outside has been given a thoroughly restyled look too, with new bumpers.

The latest design has also “stretched” the car to a total length of 406 centimetres. The other external dimensions remain the same, with a width of 169 cm, a height of 149 cm and a wheelbase of 251 cm.

The new Fiat Punto Evo will arrive in New Zealand in the third quarter of 2010, when local prices and specifications will be announced.
