That’s the sticker price on Audi’s Q7 V12 TDI quattro which the German carmaker says is taking diesel technology to new performance heights.

The six-litre V12’s redeveloped common rail injection system helps it deliver 368 kW (500 horsepower) and a massive 1000Nm of peak torque.

Audi says that gives the massive SUV sports car performance – 0-100km/h in 5.5 seconds and a top speed limited electronically to 250km/h – but not supercar-like fuel consumption.

It says the big diesel can achieve economy of up to 11.3 litres/100km, easily outclassing petrol-powered high-performance SUVs.

The gearbox is an uprated Tiptronic six-speed, and the Q7 V12 has adaptive air suspension and electronically controlled shock absorbers, 21-inch wheels and carbon-fibre ceramic disc brakes.
