Toyota’s popular Hilux has been enhanced thanks to a revised line up, advanced safety specifications and improved value for money.
A new model has been added to the Hilux range – a standard grade 4WD extra cab ute with 3.0 litre turbo diesel engine and five speed manual transmission.
There are now five 2WD models and eight 4WDs.
The Hilux 2WD is available with the choice of three body styles; single-cab cab-chassis, extra-cab ute and double-cab ute. All are available with a 3.0 litre turbo-diesel engine, while there is a 2.7 litre petrol engine available for single and double-cab models. All 2WD models have a 5 speed manual transmission.
The Hilux 4WD is available in four body styles: single-cab cab-chassis, extra-cab cab-chassis and ute, and double-cab ute. All versions have a 3.0 litre turbo-diesel engine and 5 speed manual transmission, while double cab models are also available with a 4 speed automatic gearbox.
SR5 versions are available for the 4WD extra-cab and double-cab ute. All Hilux come with an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) as standard while all 4WD double cab models have Vehicle Stability Control (VSC).
Since its release, Hilux has been continually updated to offer the size, body styles, power and equipment demanded of a vehicle which doubles as a workhorse and a family car.
Toyota New Zealand General Manager of Sales and Operations, Steve Prangnell said: “Toyota engineers have travelled around the world to learn about how Hilux is used, in order to develop ways to address the changing demands of our customers. While in New Zealand, they drove our farm tracks, spoke to customers, and then formulated ways to make Hilux even better suited to our unique conditions.
“Our customers were calling for a Hilux that’s tougher, more durable, safer and better looking. I believe the truck we’re launching today will exceed those expectations,” said Prangnell.
The 2012 Hilux now has a more modern and advanced look, while maintaining the tough image that New Zealander’s appreciate. The entire front end is new, with a newly designed bumper, grille, headlights, bonnet and fenders.
Inside, Hilux embraces SUV-like comfort and convenience features with a fresh new instrument panel layout, brand new audio units and for SR5 models, climate controlled air conditioning and a touch-screen audio unit. Side and curtain shield airbags are standard for all 4WD models.
Upgraded audio units are fitted to all models, giving customers access to advanced Bluetooth connectivity as well as MP3 player input. Hilux SR5 models add a 6.1” touch screen audio unit with features such as album cover art display and reverse camera compatibility.
