Audi says the S3 sprints to 100 km/h in 5.7 seconds and has an electronically-governed top speed of 250km/h.

Its 2.0-litre, turbocharged four-cylinder engine has FSI petrol direct injection.
It drives all four wheels through a six-speed gearbox and quattro permanent four-wheel drive.

A newly-developed S sports suspension system has been tuned to combine sporty handling with good ride comfort.

The single-frame grille is chrome trimmed, the front skirt has a spoiler with large air-intakes and the side sills have been restyled. A contrasting platinum grey diffuser is built into the rear skirt, along with two S-style oval chrome tailpipes. Aluminium-look door mirrors and a body-colour roof spoiler add visual impact.

The pedals, gear knob and air vents are finished in aluminium look, with the inlays in piano black, aluminium or fine grain birchwood grey.

Optional equipment available on the new S3 includes a leather-wrapped, quattro GmbH steering wheel with flat-bottomed rim, and folding bucket seats.

The car has a new generation soundsystem. The premium package has universal interfaces for mobile phone and iPod, plus a Bose sound system.
New Zealand pricing and specifications levels are yet to be decided.
