Volvo is promising more radical and dynamic looks for its revamped S60 sedan which debuts in concept form at the Detroit Motor Show in early January
The Swedish carmaker will launch the all-new S60 in 2010. "We both can, and dare, to deliver more exciting and more dynamic designs while maintaining our lead position in safety,” says Volvo boss, Stephen Odell.
This teaser picture, posted today, shows a profile that further accentuates the sedan’s coupe-inspired lines.
Odell says the concept S60 will give “a visual promise of enthusiastic driving characteristics” and that the all-new S60 will “deliver a sporty drive like no Volvo before.”
Volvo design chief, Steve Mattin, says the new S60 concept will feature daring interior design, including a floating centre stack made of hand-crafted Orrefors crystal.
It’s shaped in a transparent wave from the instrument panel to the rear seat backrest and appears to float, resting gently on rubber pads above the ergonomically designed centre stack.
Mattin says concept cars allow designers to give their imaginations free rein. “Our super-slim centre stack was the perfect object. Using pure crystal is a thrilling experiment. We may well see interior features in crystal-like materials in the future.”
