Toyota to electrify Detroit

Toyota, which this week announced it is facing its first financial loss since the 1940s, will unveil a “battery electric vehicle concept" (EV) at next month’s Detroit motor show

The EV will share Toyota’s stand with the production version of the 2010 Prius, the next generation version of the best-selling hybrid.

Toyota’s terse teaser media release – just two sentences long – gave no hint of what size the EV will be or whether it will be a version of an existing car. There’s speculation that it will be similar in size to Chevrolet’s Volt electric car which is due to go on sale here in 2012.
