Toyota recalls 2.3 million vehicles

Toyota USA has announced it will recall 2.3 million vehicles to replace the accelerator pedal.

Toyota says the accelerator pedal, in rare instances, may mechanically stick in a partially depressed position or only slowly return to the idle position.

Toyota will also temporarily halt production of eight models in Toyota North American plants.

Toyota NZ says although this matter is still under investigation for models outside the USA, its advice from Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) Japan is that this issue does not affect any Toyota models sold in New Zealand or any used vehicles imported from Japan.

Models affected by the announcement were the 2009-10 RAV4, 2009-10 Corolla, 2009-10 Matrix, 2005-10 Avalon, as well as certain 2007-10 Camry, 2010 Highlander, 2007-10 Tundra and 2008-10 Sequoia models, according to the statement.

Also unaffected were Toyota Prius, Tacoma, Sienna, Venza, Solara, Yaris, 4Runner, FJ Cruiser, Land Cruiser and select Camry models, including all Camry hybrids, which the company said "will remain for sale".
