Three unidentified bidders are vying to buy the Viper sports car business from cash-strapped Chrysler, US reports say
They say, too, that Viper sales boomed in January, despite the gloomy US economy. Chrysler sold 127 of the V10-powered sports cars, a 74 percent lift.
Chrysler put Viper up for sale as part of its plan to restructure and save money.
It has till February 17 to lodge a restructuring plan with the US Treasury and until March 31 to show the US government how it plans to ensure its long-term viability.
Hingeing on the latter is a $US4 billion federal government loan.
In other cost-saving moves, Chrysler is ending production of the PT Cruiser retromobile.
