NZ A1GP driver Jonny Reid says he's in confident mood going into tomorrow's Sprint Race at Taupo and is also in with a fighting chance in the Feature Race which he'll start from fifth on the grid.
New Zealand’s A1GP driver Jonny Reid says he’s very confident going into tomorrow’s Sprint Race after qualifying on pole earlier this afternoon.
“I have the home support and I really want this one,” the Black Beauty driver said.
“I’ll be out their doing my best.”
Reid was also fastest in the third segment of qualifying, again ahead of South Africa’s Adrian Zaugg, but in the fourth segment was dropped to fifth starting position for the Feature Race.
The Feature Race grid is set by times set in the third and fourth segment of qualifying.
Pole for the Feature Race was taken by Frenchman Loic Duval, ahead of Germany’s Christian Vietoris, Switzerland’s Neel Jani and Canada’s Robert Wickens.
Reid says that at the end of the Sprint Race qualifying, he had been aware of people in the grandstands standing up and saluting him.
He didn’t have radio contact with his pit but he was hoping the crowd reaction meant he was on at least the front tow.
“The crowd was very excited and I was hoping for at least the front row.”
The pole lap had been” a very clean lap…not many mistakes.”
He said starting fifth in the Feature Race “isn’t really where we wanted to start, but that’s the way it went.
“But we’ve done if before (he won the Czech Republic Feature race from seventh on the grid) and we can do it again.”
