Nissan GT-R to the rescue at Nurburgring

The Nurburgring has taken delivery of a Nissan GT-R safety car

The car will be used as a rapid response vehicle to provide assistance to anyone who hits trouble lapping the 14-mile track.

The Nissan GT-R has been modified to fulfill its new role, with the back seat being taken out to make room for a tank of fire-retarding foam, while there’s also a roll cage and carbonfibre Recaro sports seats. A fire hose is stored in the boot along with an equipment bay.

The Nissan GT-R knows the 'Ring like the back of its hand, after claiming a lap record earlier this year, despite doubts from Porsche.

The GT-R was also pace car at the 2009 Australian V8 series.
