The new Audi S4 and S4 Avant have been fine tuned for more speed and agility
The Audi S4 features a new engine under the hood – a 3.0 TFSI V6 with power of 245kW (333hp) with reported fuel consumption of 9.4 (Avant 9.6) litres per 100 km.
The supercharged engine has a displacement of 2995cc with maximum torque of 440Nm between 2900 and 5300rpm.
Audi says despite its power, the car is frugal - the sedan needing on average 9.7 litres and the Avant 9.9 litres of fuel per 100 km.
The sedan will reach 100kmh in 5.3 seconds, the Avant in 5.4 seconds, with an electronically governed top speed of 250kmh.
The Audi S4 models feature a seven-speed S tronic and new optional sport differential. With Audi drive select the driver can alter the working mode of the engine, S tronic and the optional sport differential as desired. Dynamic steering and adaptive damper control round off the system.
Audi’s quattro permanent four-wheel drive system ensures transfers power to the road, sending 40 percent of the torque to the front and 60 percent to the rear wheels, and a sports suspension and a high-performance brake system are in place to control it.
In the drivetrain, the differential is positioned in front of the clutch, which allowed the engine to be moved 154mm towards the rear compared with the predecessor model.
The S4 has a long wheelbase of 281 mm and the chassis has been given stiffer axle bearings, and the sporty tuning with firm shock absorbers puts the body 20mm closer to the road compared with the A4.
Modifications to the exterior design of the S4 include the special aprons, the aluminium-look exterior mirrors, the 19-inch 5-spoke alloy wheels, the sill trims, the restrained spoiler at the rear and the quadruple exhaust system.
The xenon plus headlights with LED daytime running lights and LED rear lights are also stand-out features of the new model.
The interior sports seats in silk nappa leather come as standard, and among the large range of optional features available are the carbon inlays, Bang and Olufsen sound system and navigation.
Both the Audi S4 and S4 Avant are now available in New Zealand dealerships.
