After months of speculation, Mercedes has revealed details of its new supercar – the Mercedes SLS AMG Gullwing
Set to replace the Mercedes McLaren SLR as the flagship model, the SLS AMG will get a 6.3-litre V8 engine developing 571bhp.
Mercedes says this will give the car performance figures of 0-100kph in 3.8 seconds.
While a way off the top speed of many current supercars, Mercedes is expecting its new model to go further between fill-ups – with the SLS AMG averaging 21.6mpg.
The photos released by Mercedes are official spy shots so the full design of the new SLS AMG isn’t finalised, but it will have the classic Gullwing doors as seen on the Mercedes 300 SL of the 1950s.
The body is made entirely of aliminium and weighs in at just 1620kg.
Mercedes says testing of the new SLS AMG will be completed by the end of the year with the new Gullwing going on sale this time next year.
A 300 SL Gullwing Mercedes is on display at the Mercedes-Benz World in Surrey.
