Reigning champion stamps his authority on NZ V8s qualifying at the Hamilton 400.
Newly-crowned NZ V8s champion, John McIntyre, was in dominant form during practice and qualifying for this weekend’s Hamilton race meeting, setting fastest time in practice and backing it by taking pole for tomorrow’s two races.
McIntyre gridded the BP Ultimate in pole position with a 1m 32.1946s lap, edging Angus Fogg’s Caltex by 0.8 of a second. Fogg had a spin mid-session.
Third-quickest was Australian David Besnard in another Ford, ahead of Paul Radisich’s HPM Falcon.
Holden Commodores went better in qualifying than they had in timed practice, and Andy Booth gridded the Big Ben Pies VY fifth, ahead of teammate Paul Manuell’s Orix car.
Clark Proctor, Luke Youlden, Marl Porter and Kayne Scott, all in Fords, completed the top 10.
