Front-running 996 class GT3 racer, Timmy Martin, is in confident mood heading into this weekend's races at Manfeild.
Porsche GT3 racer Timmy Martin plans to extend his points lead in the 996 section of the New Zealand Championship at Manfeild this weekend.
The 996 section is for older model GT3s; the current front-runners use the latest model 997 version of the 911.
Martin says his Hire A Hubby Porsche had some serious pace in the last round at Taupo.
He qualified the distinctively-liveried GT3 as fastest 996 and ahead of three of the newer 997 models. However, he slipped one place in each of the three races to record three second places among the 996s.
Martin says he’ll be pushing hard from the time qualifying begins this weekend.
“Taupo was a great confidence booster,” he says. “We were the fastest 996 for much of the weekend, and passed a lot of cars in the races. This gives us great momentum as we head into this weekend.”
One mistake Martin says he won’t make again is starting a race in second gear. He did that at the start of the second race at Taupo, a mistake that sits in the book of “you only do that once.”
