Lemur Attack Force is made up of two crazies, Aimee Whitcroft and Dane "Finn" Foster. Their aim - to survive the Mongol Rally 2012.
For those who aren't aware of what the Mongol Rally is...
In a nutshell - Teams purchase a vehicle with a maximum 1.2 litre engine, it must be no more than 10yrs old and they then drive from London to Ulan Bator (Mongolia), arrive safely and intact, all the while raising money for charity.
This is not just any ordinary rally, there are no routes, you can choose whichever way you want to go. As long as you start and finish, that's pretty much it.
The race offically kicks off from historic Goodwood Motor Circuit in West Sussex on the 14th July and then depending on how long and which route teams choose to take, finish around the middle of August.
It's a tough and expensive trip.
There are no support teams, entrants must make their own arrangements from accomodation, breakdowns and repairs, supplies and communications. If the car has made it to the end of the rally, it is fixed up and then auctioned off. Proceeds from the auction and money raised by each team will go to charity. A car desposit must also be paid to ensure teams are responsible for any cars that can't finish the rally. This is to prevent any clapped out wrecks from being left out in the middle of nowhere.
Aimee and Dane have purchased a 2003 Suzuki Jimny, which Aimee describes as "our cute wee car!" and have yet to spruce her up with sponsors' logos. She's so shiny that's it's hard to imagine what the state of her will be once they complete the rally!
The team are driving for three worthy causes; Women's Refuge, the SPCA and the Red Cross Canterbury Earthquake Appeal. Donations can be made via their website below.
Autotrader will be following their progress throughout the rally with regular updates and photos.
