Even the drivers thought it was too wet to be racing, with an internationally acclaimed field aquaplaning off the circuit.
The 2012 Toyota Racing Series began at Teretonga Park in Invercargill over the weekend, with a field of top quality internationals - but it's local driver Damon Leitch who is conclusively leading the series.
The Invercargill man prevailed in a weekend of inconsistent and at worst treacherous conditions, creating shortened races and pure racing carnage. Perhaps Leitch's knowledge of the Southland weather enabled him to managed his Zero Fees Toyota better than his competitors, as he produced the highest scores over three races - securing a second, fourth and third placing respectively.
Leitch now has an 8 point series lead over fellow kiwi Nick Cassidy. The field now head to Timaru next weekend for Round 2.
