Jaguar XJ on its way to NZ

Video: Jaguar’s range-topping XJ will arrive in New Zealand next month

The all new XJ is Jaguar’s flagship four-door model, as it attempts to extend its appeal to a new generation.

“The new XJ is a thoroughly modern interpretation of the quintessential Jaguar. Its visual impact stems from the elongated teardrop shape of the car’s side windows, that powerful stance and its wide track. It is the most emphatic statement yet of Jaguar’s new design direction”, said Ian Callum, Design Director of Jaguar Cars.

Eight different models are available, with short and long wheelbase chassis and a choice of a three litre diesel, five litre V8 and supercharged V8 engines.

Pricing begins at $174,990 for the XJ SWB 3.0 Diesel, with the performance topping LWB 375 kW supercharged Supersport model at $324,990.

A new panoramic glass roof is an integral part of the all-new XJ’s design, enabling the car to have a lower, more streamlined roofline, while increasing the feeling of light and space inside.

Standard and long-wheelbase models are available from launch in New Zealand. The long wheelbase offers an additional 125mm of legroom fro passengers, and all models feature a 520-litre boot.

All of Jaguar’s new Gen III petrol and diesel engines are available in the XJ. The 3.0-litre V6 diesel, 5.0-litre naturally aspirated V8 and 5.0-litre supercharged V8 are joined by a 346kW version of the supercharged engine. The diesel-powered XJ returns combined economy figures of 7.0l/100km and CO2 emissions of 184g/km for the standard-wheelbase car.

The XJ offers features such as rear air suspension, Adaptive Dynamics (continuously variable damping), Active Differential Control and quick-ratio power steering.

Inside the car, there are some new technologies like a 12.3-inch high-definition virtual instruments that complement an innovative, Dual-View technology 8-inch touch-screen that can project DVD movies or television programmes to the passenger while the driver views vehicle functions or follows satellite navigation.

The XJ is lighter than its rivals by at least 150kg, thanks to the use of Jaguar's aerospace-inspired aluminium body technology, which reportedly improves performance, handling and economy, while delivering increased strength, refinement, and safety.

“The all-new Jaguar XJ reinforces the strength of Jaguar in the New Zealand market and with its spectacular looks and performance, competes with a much wider range of competitors than any previous XJ,” said Motorcorp Distributors Executive Chairman, Russell Reynolds.
