Holden has announced it will offer the choice of two responsive four-cylinder engines and a premium audio system with Holden MyLink technology when it launches the much anticipated new Malibu mid-sized sedan next year
The Holden Malibu will be available with a 2.4 litre DOHC petrol engine or an optional 2.0 litre Common Rail turbo diesel powertrain. Both engines will be paired with a six-speed automatic transmission with Active Select.
In addition to Holden MyLink, the entry level Malibu CD will be fully equipped with safety and technology features, including reversing camera and Rear Park Assist, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), passive entry and start with sensor key, seven inch colour touchscreen and nine speaker audio system. Malibu CDX will gain 18 inch alloy wheels and leather seats and steering wheel trim.
Holden Chairman and Managing Director Mike Devereux made the announcement earlier today at the Australian International Motor Show in Sydney where Malibu made its Australasian debut alongside other new Holden models including the Colorado 7 4X4, Barina CDX and Cruze Sportwagon.
Mr Devereux said Malibu was a stylish and aspirational new global model that introduced a true mid-size contender to the Holden range that would include the latest in infotainment technology.
"Malibu is a strong example of the exciting new-generation of products coming from General Motors," Devereux said.
"It's a genuine premium sedan with strong visual appeal, mid-size interior packaging, Holden-tuned ride and handling and a surprising list of standard features. And the addition of Holden MyLink across the Malibu range ensures it will offer customers a truly compelling package.
"Holden MyLink is very smart technology and Malibu will be among the first cars in our portfolio to get it.
Holden MyLink elevates wireless connectivity to a completely new level by enabling customers to control certain smartphone apps through Malibu's seven inch touchscreen.
"And with two refined four-cylinder engines to choose from, Malibu's aspirational balance of efficiency, technology, style and performance will be very appealing."
Mr Devereux said Holden engineers had considerable input in the global Malibu development program and the drive quality of the local model.
"Our team has created a unique suspension tune for New Zealand and Australian conditions and developed Malibu's transmission calibrations for multiple GM markets like New Zealand, Australia, Europe and North America," Devereux said.
"It's thanks to our vast technical expertise as a mature manufacturing, engineering and design centre that Holden is able to fine-tune the products we sell locally and provide our input for significant global programs like Malibu."
Holden will announce full Malibu specification, pricing and model line-up closer to its launch in the second quarter of 2013.
