The new Volkswagon GTI is now in its sixth generation and has arrived in New Zealand with sleek new looks and a powerful engine
On New Zealand's five-door model, a 2.0 TSI engine is coupled with a 6-speed DSG dual clutch gearbox which generates 155kW and will takes you from 0-100kph in 6.9 seconds.
Volkswagon says while the new Golf GTI is powerful, it is still gentle on the environment, achieving a CO² emission of 173g/km.
On the outside, the GTI's sporty features include 17-inch 'Denver' alloy wheels, special honeycomb radiator grille, two exhaust tailpipes, roof spoiler and exclusive body-coloured bumpers.
Inside the new Golf GTI features a leather-trimmed sports steering wheel with curved GTI inlay and badge, aluminium-look DSG gearshift and pedals, “Black Stripe” inlays, and chromed surrounds which include the air vents.
“Climatronic” air conditioning with 2-zone temperature control, the “RCD 310” CD system with media device interface (MDI) which lets you plug in and control your iPod or MP3 player, and ParkPilot with audible warnings from sensors at the front and rear mean driving the new Golf will be a pleasurable experience.
Safety features include an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Differential Lock (EDL) and Electronic Stabilisation Program (ESP), and seven airbags (including a driver's knee airbag). The new model has achieved a 5 star EuroNCAP rating.
The new Golf GTI is priced at $57,490.
And, iIf you're after something bigger, the 103kW TDI, 6-speed tiptronic Tiguan R-Line is a whole lot of car. Extras include 19" wheels, R-Line styled interior and sports suspension.
Priced at $60,990 (excluding on-road costs) and with only 50 in the country you'll have to move fast.
