The new Shelby GT500 has been revealed at the Chicago Auto Show
The new model looks very similiar to the 2010 car, but this time features an aluminium 5.4-litre V8 engine with an additional 0.4-litres of displacement, an improved block structure, six-bolt billet main bearing caps, and a supercharger.
The new engine on the GT500 weighs 38kg less than the previous cast-iron engine, and produces 550hp and 510 ft-lb (691Nm) of torque. that's an increase of 10hp over the 2010 model.
While no performance figures have been released, Ford says the 2011 Shelby GT500 will be the first modern Shelby to be exempt from the US gas guzzler tax because it is expected to get 15 mpg city / 23 mpg highway.
Ford has also revised the electric power steering system, added slotted brake dust shields, installed a new pedal box and created a new exhaust system.
Those who want increased performance will go for the optional SVT Performance Package, which features unique styling accents, stiffer springs, a higher rear axle ratio, and lightweight wheels.
