Ford has taken the wraps off a new, more powerful version of its Focus RS - the Focus RS500
Making its world debut at the 2010 Leipzig Motor Show in Germany in April, the new model has been given the RS500 badge to highlight its strictly-limited production run of 500 vehicles to mark the end of the current Focus’ production run.
The new Focus features a 345bhp version of the 2.5-litre turbocharged 5-cylinder engine giving a power increase of 15%.
The 0-100kph time is down 0.3 seconds to 5.6 seconds, and top speed is boosted to 263kph.
Peak power is increased by 45PS to 350PS at 6000rpm, while torque has been increased from 440 to 460Nm, delivered across a broad speed range from 2500 to 4500rpm.
Other changes include a larger air-to-air intercooler, a larger air filter box for increased airflow, larger diameter exhaust downpipe, an uprated fuel pump, and an updated software calibration.
Its matt black body has been achieved by using a vinyl wrap developed by 3M, while gloss black wheels and red brake callipers ensure the RS500 looks even more dramatic than the standard car.
Inside, along with the red leather upholstery, each Ford Focus RS500 will carry a metal plaque on the centre console, hand-engraved with an identification number from 001 to 500.
The Focus RS500 includes, as standard: dual-zone automatic climate control, heated windscreen, rear parking distance sensors, tyre deflation detection system, automatic headlights and rain-sensing wipers, auto dimming rear-view mirror, Ford key-free start, Bluetooth®, voice control and USB port, Sony 6-CD audio system, Recaro sports front seats with partial leather trim. Two optional features are touchscreen DVD navigation and audio system, and the full leather Recaro front seats in red.
Unfortunately, the new Ford Focus RS500 will only be sold in 20 European markets. Booooo.
