General Motors has confirmed that production of the next-generation Chevrolet Corvette C7 will start in 2012
The announcement was made as part of GM’s two-year product plan for its four core brands – Chevrolet, Buick, Cadillac and GMC.
Production of the Chevrolet Corvette C7 will begin in April 2012 for the 2013 model year.
While details are limited, GM confirmed the C7 would retain the Corvette’s front-engine, rear-drive layout. The C7 is expected to have a smaller and lighter body, using carbonfibre and aluminium. It has also been rumoured that a supercharger could be fitted to the engine.
Styling could be influenced by the Stingray Concept that was introduced at the Chicago Auto Show and featured in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (pictured).
