Commodore still king in Oz

Holden’s Commodore continued its unbroken reign as the king of the Australian car market in 2008, posting its 13th consecutive year as best-selling model

Holden sold 51,093 VE Commodore-based models in 2008, say Australian Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries figures.

The Commodore rounded out 2008 in bullish mode, setting best month of the year figures for the model line, retailing 5413 cars and 1629 Utes.

Commodore sales got a fillip with the July launch of the Sportwagon (pictured), which racked up 8200 sales in five months.

Overall, Holden sold 130,338 vehicles in Australia in 2008, for a market share of 12.9 percent.

Toyota was Australia’s big winner, with 238,983 sales and a 23.6 percent market share. Ford sold 104,715 for a 10.3 percent share of the Australian new-car market.
