BMW shows off its futuristic Megacity

BMW has released the first teaser images of its 2013 Megacity

BMW is in the midst of developing an electrically driven city car, currently known as the Megacity, and today released the first official teaser photo.

The car is scheduled to enter production in 2013.

Details are scarce, but the base model shown in this rendering will be a four-seater powered by a rear-mounted 150hp electric motor powered by a 35kW lithium-ion battery. BMW has also revealed that the production version of the Megacity will make extensive use of carbon fiber reinforced plastics (CFRP).

The car will be a two-door coupe, measuring approximately 4 metres long.

BMW estimates the car will have a range of at least 161 km and a top speed of 153 km/h.

BMW expects to introduce additional Megacity variants, starting with the ICV (Intracity Vehicle), which will be launched in 2015. It will retain the two-door layout, but drop the rear seats. In 2017, BMW will unveil the UCV (Urban Commuter Vehicle) which features an extended wheelbase, four doors, and seating for five.
