Peugeot has a history of lightweight and nimble GTi hatchbacks. Now there’s the 308 GTi, which is a perfectly practical family car with an added bonus of bigger brakes, more power, a World Engine of the Year power unit and some sporty design accents.
But the GTi moniker is something special. It requires a cheekiness and a chomping-at-the-bit eagerness to pull it off with a modicum of conviction. The 308’s already been criticised as eating too many chocolat a croquer; is it worthy of the legendary three letters?
