The Toyota Racing Series management has approached the Canterbury Car Club with a view to retaining the prestigious Lady Wigram Trophy within the TRS.
Last season Earl Bamber won the trophy at a stand-alone meeting at Ruapuna in January, but with the TRS now falling back under the Tier 1 umbrella, the TRS Ruapuna round will coincide with the NZ V8s races in November.
The club had been keen to promote the trophy race at as the feature event, but felt that it would be harder to retain the identity of the trophy race within a Tier 1 meeting. Club CEO Lloyd Proctor says that the club understands Toyota’s desire to see the trophy race contested by New Zealand’s premier single seater category and a decision will soon be made in conjunction with The Motor Racing Club, the custodians of the famous trophy.
If the Motor Racing Club’s decision is positive, it will mean that the Lady Wigram Trophy will be contested twice in 2008.
