Multiple New Zealand Sprint Car champion Allan Wakeling has dismissed rumours that he'll be racing overseas during the New Zealand off-season.
“I’d love to race at Paramatta [speedway in Sydney], but of course they don’t race over the winter.
“It’s not economical to take your own car over there so you’d need to race one of their cars and it would be up to me to make it happen,” said the Western Springs crowd-pleaser.
“I really alike the look of Paramatta and I would like to run there before I finish racing.”
Wakeling, who has previously raced in Australia and US, says running in Australia is the more realistic proposition.
“Racing in America is realistically too hard to do from New Zealand. When you’re racing in Australia, you can fly back during the week to look after business. If you’re going to race in America you need to be based there.”
