Triple success for Triple-X Porsches

Craig Baird extends Battery Town series lead with two wins and a second place at Ruapuna.

Triple X Motorsport drivers clean-swept the Battery Town 2008/2009 Porsche GT3 Cup races at Ruapuna last weekend.

Team driver and reigning champion, Craig Baird, took two victories with Australian teammate David Reynolds winning the third, reversed-top-six-grid finale. Baird took the round win.

The fast-starting Baird shot from sixth to second place on lap one of the reverse grid race and was challenging for the lead when he and Jody Vincent touched entering the front straight and Reynolds got past.

“I had a real good start and had a clean move going on for the lead,” said Baird. “But that’s what you get when you’re in a reverse grid format racing against guys who run behind you.

“(Officials) complain about the damage but it’s their idea to have these sorts of races. It’s certainly not mine.” He came home second.

Reynolds has now moved into second in the series. “It wasn’t too bad,” he said. “I got a good start from fifth position and made it through turn one. It was hectic for those first couple of laps.

“I tried to put a bit of pressure on Craig – made him put a bit of pressure on Jody Vincent. Jody squeezed him for room (and they) came together so I just drove off."
Daniel Gaunt finished the weekend third overall behind his Triple-X teammate and is fourth overall in the championship behind Jono Lester who had been second going to Ruapuna.
