Three places left on Midget grid

 

The final three starters in the 2007 New Zealand Midget Car Championship will be decided in Christchurch this afternoon.

February 25, 2007. Three spots remain for drivers hoping to qualify for tonight’s Accessman NZ Midget Car Championship at Powerbuilt Speedway (Ruapuna) near Christchurch.

The rain-delayed finals were due begin at 4pm with a last chance repecharge to decide the final three qualifiers in the 24-car field.

Engine problems have already sidelined young Auckland driver Brad Mosen and Nelson racer Nevil Basalaj.

The successful qualifiers last night were:

Group 1: Dion Rochford (Christchurch) 30pts, Michael Brunt (Hamilton) 25, Simon Longdill (Auckland) 24, Shayne Alach (Auckland) 23, Michael Kendall (Auckland) 21, Graham Standring (Auckland) 18, Bill Clarkson (Auckland) 18.

Group 2: Bryce Townsend (Auckland) 34pts, Shaun Insley (Auckland) 33, Steve Currie (Auckland) 32, Garry Lennon (Christchurch) 26, Darren Nankivell (Christchurch) 25, Paul Quinn (Nelson) 18, Aaron Webb (Christchurch)15.

Group 3: Tony Fabish (Te Awamutu) 31pts, Michael Pickens (Auckland) 30, Scott Buckley 29 (Auckland), Lance Beale (Auckland) 26, Ray Baughan (Christchurch) 22, Wayne Green (Auckland) 21, Jimi Quin (Napier) 19.
