Northland driver, Kingsley Thompson, is stepping up to the Vantage Aluminium Joinery New Zealand Rally Championship this year, and is setting his sights on the Rookie of the Year title
Thompson, who has contested regional rallies in a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 4, will debut a Ralliart NZ-built Evo X in the series-opening Rally of Hawke’s Bay on April 4-5.
“It’ll be a tall order but we’re keen to prove we’ve got what it takes,” says the helicopter pilot. “Speed and consistency are going to pretty crucial in achieving our objectives; to win you have to be fast but you also have to finish”.
Richard Ellis will call the pacenotes and partnered Thompson in the 2008 Hawke’s Bay Rally where they finished 11th overall.
“We’ve got the car, we’ve got the people, now we just need to get out there and do the business,” says Ellis
Rally Hawke’s Bay starts officially at 7pm on Friday, April 3, at the Napier Soundshell and covers 311 kilometres of gravel stages on Saturday and Sunday.
