Reigning Australian V8 Supercar champion, Garth Tander, saw his slim hopes of retaining the crown slip away at Symmons Plains, Tasmania, last weekend
Tander finished a disappointed eighth in a round won by Jamie Whincup who is now only 67 points away from winning his first championship.
“We were hanging on by our fingernails coming into the round,” Holden Racing Team Commodore driver Tander said. “But the championship’s definitely over now.
“Good luck to Jamie. We’ll just go to Oran Park (the series finale in two weekends’ time) and enjoy the round for what it is, try to put on a really good show and end the year on a positive note.”
The Oran Park round will be the last V8 Supercar championship outing for Tander’s HRT teammate, Australian racing great, Mark Skaife, who is retiring.
