Toll HNV driver and home boy Garth Tander sets the pace in West Australia. Tasman’s Jason Richards and Fujitsu's Jason Bright have a huge collision.
March 24, 2007, 10.25am. Toll HSV Holden Commodore driver Garth Tander set the fastest lap time yesterday in practice for the Australian V8 Supercar Championship round in his home town, Perth, West Australia.
“We’re happy with the progress but very mindful that it’s still very early in the weekend,” said Tander. “Just a race win would do for a start.”
Ford Performance Racing’s Mark Winterbottom was second fastest in his Falcon.
The practice session was littered with stoppages, with cars off in the sandtraps and a heavy accident between Fujitsu’s Jason Bright and Tasman Motorsport’s Jason Richards.
“Brighty had some sort of problem and slowed pretty fast,” said Richards. “(I went) to the inside but he decided to cross back over the track, which I didn’t expect.
“The closing speed was so great that it was over pretty quickly for both of us. It was a hard hit and all a little pointless and (my) car is very badly damaged.
“We’ve seen our team perform miracles in the past to get me back out there and they’re going to have to do it again tonight.”
