Sumner extends lead in Hawke’s Bay


August 4, 2007, 3pm. Dean Sumner has increased his lead by winning the first two afternoon special stages of the Hawke’s Bay Rally, near Wairoa.

The Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 9 driver has extended his lead over Sam Murray (Subaru Impreza WRX STi) from 7.9 seconds to 15.4s with two stages to run.

Hawke’s Bay’s Stewart Taylor (Evo 9) is third, 33.7 seconds behind Murray.

Mitsubishi Lancer drivers fill the next two places, Brett Martin (Evo 9) leading Hayden Paddon (Evo 8).

They’re followed by Dylan Turner (Evo 8) and Nathan Thomas (Evo 7).

N\Mark Tapper leads the Ford Fiesta Challenger section, running 11th overall among the nation series drivers.

Dave Strong now leads Kiwi 2 in his Honda Civic Type R after getting ahead of fellow Honda driver Andrew Keighley.
